Optical tweezers for manipulating nano-micro objects of photochemical or biological interests

We are developing an experiment for the manipulation under an optical microscope of nano-micro sized objects by means of optical tweezers. Optical tweezers are obtained when a laser beam is tightly focused through a microscope objective with a high numerical aperture (Fig. 1). The forces induced by the refracted light on small sized objects, typically silica or latex spheres, allow the trapping and the manipulation of these objects.
