Program Outline

The origin of the Conference can be traced back to the discovery of zero-phonon lines in organic solids and of persistent spectral hole burning in such materials (1972). Since the first seminal meeting in Estonia (1987), the Conference was held in California, Switzerland, Japan, Minnesota, France, Taiwan and Montana.

The Conference has brought together participants from all over the world to discuss the latest developments in fundamental science and applications of site-selective spectroscopy and related topics.

The 9th meeting will be held in Aussois, in the French Alps. The program will consist of invited and contributed papers. Special attention will be paid to posters that will be displayed continuously during the whole meeting.

This ninth edition will draw increased attention to novel microscopies and nanophotonics, particularly applied to biological systems, microwave photonics and quantum information processing applications, laser technology and new functionalized optical materials. The 9th HBSM Conference will be a privileged meeting opportunity for molecular and atomic physicists, bio-physicists, material specialists, laser and optical scientists.

The conference topics are distributed in three main areas:

Photophysics and photochemistry
  Hole-burning materials and mechanisms
Photon echoes and coherent transients
Dephasing and spectral diffusion
Multi-photon and nonlinear effects
Biological systems

Nanosystems and nano-optics
  Single molecule detection
Single nanoparticle spectroscopy
Novel microscopies and imaging techniques
Nanoprocessing and molecular machines

Information and optical signal processing

Classical and quantum treatments
Time and space domain holography
Novel laser sources for new spectroscopic tools
New functionalized optical materials (organics and inorganics)
Microwave Photonics

A one-day tour of “Parc National de la Vanoise” and other family activities will be included.

Please see the conference WEB site http://www.lac.u-psud.fr/hbsm2006/hbsm06.htm for further details and information on the Aussois area.
